250 Years of Hawaiian Fashion History
Fashion is the medium for transcending time and sharing with you the past 250 years of
Hawaiian history featuring original designs by Allen Akina. It is a history lesson and fashion
show all in one with music and hula vignettes to showcase the warmth, beauty and unique
lifestyle and culture of the Hawaiian Islands.
The show begins with ancient attire prior to Western influence, replicas of the gowns worn
by Hawaiian Monarchs, the fashion of the Missionary era and continues on with designs
influenced by first generation migrant workers from China, Japan, the Phillipines and Korea.
The heydays of the 40's with cello skirts and sarongs brings us to the modern era of
Hawaiian fashion. Many of our Miss Hawaii titleholders, current and former, will be modeling
for you and entertain you wit hula and song.
Besides being entertained, all will gain a whole new perspective of why Hawaii is such a
special place and known as the melting pot of the Pacific.
